What to do in Chicago this May
After a full pandemic year and Chicago’s long and cold winter months, the marvelous month of May is finally here to spread some cheer. Chicagoans, this year we promise you get a do-over! Your spring home maintenance checklist is complete, now it’s time to start making plans and appreciate the warm weather and the infinite number of things to love about Chicago. Garfield Park Conservatory’s “Saturation” Spring Flower Show – until May 9
Appreciate this year’s spring flowers with this educational, family-friendly and out of the ordinary flower show. Prepare yourself for a crash course on the wide range of hues and tints within each color of the concentrated groups of blooming flowers. An outing that will have you recognize the important value of the fauna and flora within cities. The Spring Flower Show: Saturation runs from February 27th until May 9th 2021.
Celebrating Mother’s Day – May 9th
Forget about brunch or dinner reservations. With this previous year’s need for get-aways, gift your mom a relaxing staycation. Back to The Office Pop-up until May 16
Calling all die-hard Office fans (who isn’t though)! After it being a huge success in NYC and Boston, Replay Lincoln Park has welcomed the iconic Dunder Mifflin office as its most recent pop-up. Pay tribute to Schrute Farms, the Michael Scott Paper Company and more while enjoying themed food and cocktails. A perfect outing with friends if you ask us!
Artopia: The Immersive Art Experience until May 16
West Loop’s venue, Morgan Manufacturing presents an immersive and futuristic art experience with murals from some of Chicago’s most talented street artists. This artistic pop-up fills the entire 32,000 square foot venue with light art installations, digital and interactive projection maps and sound reactive LED’s. Socially distant exhibition and drinks in the Artopia Lounge? Count. Us. In. Grab your tickets while you can!
Chicago Gamespace presents “Nom Nom: 40 Years of Pac-Man Design and History”
For Pac-man’s 40th anniversary, Chicago Gamespace presents an in-depth story telling of the game’s development and evolution from its beginnings at Namco in Tokyo in the late 1970’s to its introduction in the U.S. market where Pac-Man became a household name. The exhibition touches on subjects such as design, global marketing, licensing, advertisement and media. With tickets being only $5 and the exhibition being free for those under twelve, this makes it the perfect day-time activity for young middle school or high school students.
Art on theMart returns with new projections this Spring. From astrographics and captivating art from Bisa Butler and Claude Monet you’re in for a hypnotizing journey. Each projection will transport you to another dimension and educate you on various history, music, art or science topics. You can join in person on the Chicago Riverwalk or enjoy the show from the comfort of your own home. Act fast because tickets are selling fast!
Navy Pier firework display until May 29
You’ll be happy to know that the classic Navy Pier’s firework display is resuming this month. A great way to celebrate the reopening of the Pier and businesses in general, enjoy them with your friends and family from Navy Pier’s public locations or Lakefront beaches. Keep your eyes peeled every Saturday at 9pm for a 10-minute-long show.
Memorial Day weekend – May 31
Every year, Chicagoans truly know how to celebrate Memorial Day weekend. It’s a time where we all hit the outdoors. If you’re the sporty type you can explore the Lakefront by bike or cruise along the Chicago river on a kayak. If a relaxing weekend is your kinda thing, have a picnic on the beach or visit one of Chicago’s museums. Regardless, you can’t go wrong with this go-to list of activities. Otherwise, take full advantage of your long weekend and get out of the city.
